I needed a cleaning (prophylaxis) because I hadn't had one for awhile after joining my Medicare Advantage plan. I received an appointment within only a few days of my call, so I was quite happy. All went well, except for the practice attempting to sell me while in the chair additional highly expensive periodontal procedures (in the thousands of dollars!) not covered by my plan, procedures which I believed I did not need. So, I declined, reiterating that I was only interested in a simple regular prophylaxis. I was informed that I would receive the prophylaxis that day, but if I wanted to be seen in the future, I would have to accept the very expensive periodontal procedures, or they would not see me. I likened this to being strongarmed at a car dealership to convince me to buy a model I didn't want or need. If this is common practice at this practice to try and sell the patient on additional services while in a vulnerable position in the chair, then this is BAD practice.
